Brett J. Teague, M.D. is a native of Manhattan, Kansas, where his father was a professor at Kansas State University.  After graduation from Manhattan High School in 1982, he enrolled at Baylor University where he graduated with a degree in biology.  After graduation from Texas Tech Medical School in 1990 he completed his ophthalmology residency training at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1994.  After completing his residency, he went on to a one year fellowship in glaucoma at the University of Oklahoma. In April of 1996 he moved to Abilene, Texas and assumed the practice of James T. Walker, M.D.

During his years of medical training Dr. Teague was the recipient of many awards including: Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society

(limited to those in the top of their class), R. Clifton Brooks Research Fellowship, Southern Medical Association Merit Scholarship, McGraw Hill Publishing Company Book Award, and the SCV Medical Scholarship.

Dr. Teague is board certified in ophthalmology. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is an active member of the Texas Medical Association, the Taylor-Jones-Haskell Medical Society and the Christian Ophthalmology Society.

Dr. Teague is married and the proud father of four daughters. He is active in church and his hobbies include basketball, tennis, bicycling, photography and computers. He is also very involved in ophthalmology mission work. He has traveled to the nation of Ghana in West Africa on five different occasions and has performed over 500 eye surgeries in Africa as a medical missionary. His last trip was in February 1999. He serves on the medical board of Christian Eye Ministry, Inc., which coordinates medical missions work in Africa.

Dr. Teague specializes in anterior segment surgery which includes cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery. He is particularly interested in glaucoma surgery. Having complete a fellowship in glaucoma, Dr. Teague is equipped to care for the most difficult cases of glaucoma.

Dr. Teague is an accomplished cataract surgeon, He performs the "small incision, no stitch" technique of cataract surgery, This method utilizes ultrasound energy (phacoemulsification) to break the cataract into very small pieces so it can be removed through a very small incision. Because the incision is so small stitches are usually not necessary and recovery of vision is rapid.

Dr. Teague also performs other surgeries including: corneal transplantation, refractive surgery, minor oculoplastic surgery, and diabetic laser surgery.

Dr. Teague is highly qualified to provide for your eye care needs. His main office is conveniently located in the new, state-of-the-art Texas Midwest Eye Center. This is located on the Hendrick Medical Center Campus on the corner of North 18th and Pine Street. The Texas Midwest Eye Center offers comprehensive opthalmological services including laser eye surgery, a full-service optical shop, and ocular photography.
